Job Title: Child Care Teacher Reports to: Assistant Director and/or Director of District Child Care Services
Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma. Prefer previous experience in a licensed childcare setting.
Job Responsibilities: 1) Plans activities at least two weeks in advance for each day and makes sure that needed supplies are available and ready in daily baskets. Plans activities using supplies on hand when possible. Turns in supply list to supervisor at least two weeks in advance. Carries out activities that are planned when they are planned. 2) Ensures that children assigned to him/her are greeted upon arrival and accounted for at all times. Acknowledges parent and child when arriving and departing. Makes sure that child does not depart with any unauthorized adult. Helps child gather belongings when leaving. 3) Conducts age-appropriate play and learning activities to foster individual and group interactions. Leads children or assists where necessary in scheduled activities. Monitors children’s use of supplies to avoid waste. 4) Participates in regular staff meetings as scheduled. 5) Reports to work on time and as scheduled. Takes breaks and lunch time as scheduled, leaving and returning on time. Clocks out when ratio drops as instructed. 6) If a contract employee, takes equal turns to open or close the center as scheduled or when necessary in emergency situations. (snow days, etc.) 7) Gives sufficient advance notice to supervisor (at least two weeks, except in case of illness) when it is necessary to be off for personal reasons or for appointments, including doctor’s appointments. Informs the supervisor of any schedule changes made by staff members, i.e., when a staff person calls a sub. 8) Schedules appointments for times that will not interfere with the regular work schedule. 9) Maintains client confidentiality at all times. Handles discussions with parents regarding discipline in a tactful, positive manner respecting parent and child privacy. 10) Maintains control of the class at all times, keeping children safe and free from harm. Children are NEVER left alone. Always knows the number of children and who they are responsible for at all times. 11) Seeks assistance from supervisor or designee on matters regarding discipline problems. Never uses idle threats to coerce children into good behavior. Uses redirection or time away from an activity. 12) Conducts self in a professional and ethical behavior at all times while on duty. 13) Suggests new ideas and methods for improving work flow and the quality of the program on a regular basis. Submits agenda items one week in advance of regular staff meetings. 14) Participates in at least 15 clock hours of approved child care training each year. 15) Participates in First Aid Class and Infant/Child or Adult CPR Class, if required. 16) Clocks in and out on computer each day at the times designated to arrive and leave. 17) Accurately completes necessary forms on children i.e., accident reports, incident reports, parent communication forms, late pick up notices, discipline forms, etc. Makes sure parent signs the original, makes a copy for and gives copy to parent. Gives original to supervisor or places it face down on her desk. Ensures that all incidents are kept confidential. 18) Keeps work area and supplies neat and orderly. Cleans up area after activities, including gym, classroom, and playground area. 19) Follows policies, procedures and state licensing standards, including checking outlet covers daily in the classroom, AND the gym (if applicable). 20) Prepares bulletin boards, does theme decorating of room if assigned to do so. 21) Accepts new responsibilities willingly. Performs other tasks as requested, including being available on snow days, early release days, delayed opening days, or other days that are not on the “normal” schedule.
