BASIC FUNCTION:
To assist in leading, facilitating, coordinating, and monitoring the implementation, operation, and evaluation of the exceptional child education program and district 504 services.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- To coordinate the special education referral, placement, and reevaluation process at the school level. - To schedule and conduct admissions and release committee meetings as assigned. - Assist principals, councils, and staff with assessing school needs and services, instructional programs and strategies, and implementing an effective curriculum and method for improving instruction and ensure that all students learn to their highest potential. - Act as a resource to school administrative teams regarding exceptional child education rules, regulations, compliance requirements, program needs, school responsibilities, discipline concerns, parent requests, and other related matters. - Collaborate with district staff and others to develop, implement, and/or obtain and provide needed resources, services, and materials for students. - Provide information to the transportation department regarding the provision of transportation services to exceptional child education students. - To coordinate the use of all exceptional child education forms at the school level including, referral and placement forms, IEP’s, data entry forms, child count forms, and other forms as may be required by district policy or state statute. - Along with school psychologist(s), monitor three-year psychological assessments. - Monitor and audit exceptional child education program documents to ensure Federal and State Compliance - Coordinate the due process folders at the school level. - Attend workshops, conferences, and meetings necessary to maintain and update professional knowledge. - Conduct in-service and training for staff as requested. - Coordinate the district’s implementation of Section 504 regulations. - Assist in coordinating the district’s implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. - Assist in coordinating the Child Identification Procedures. - Assist in the development of all special education procedures.
- Coordinate the exceptional child education transition requirements. - Maintain regular attendance. - Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in field of assignment (minimum requirement)
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid Kentucky Teaching Certification for Special Education
